Land Rover Series 3 'Totty' - Replacement Chassis & Repair's

This Land Rover Series 3 whose owner has loving named "Totty", was delivered to us on lorry, due to it needing many repairs.

The biggest job on this vehicle was the Chassis change. Unfortunately, over time 'Tottys' chassis had started corroding. With Land Rovers the original chassis were normally protected with only a coat of paint, which of course would wear away, and in time the chassis will corrode away and become weak. However, we were able to strip this vehicle down and replace the corroded chassis with a new galvanised chassis in our onsite workshop. Having a galvanised chassis increases your vehicles chassis durability massively.

 The Chassis we used was the following;

Complete Richards Chassis - NRC4642G

  • Series 3 - SWB - uniframe chassis

All Richards chassis are manufactured in the UK, using locally sourced materials and locally based machine shops. They are located close to the steel city, Sheffield, and therefore optimise the use of local steel, ensuring that all their chassis are formed from 2.5mm British steel which are all galvanised as standard.

All profiling is done 'in house' using their own laser machine, enabling them to have greater control over the quality of parts used and the materials that they are formed from. The chassis are made using 2.5mm side rails which are 25% heavier than the standard 2.0mm rails. Overall this gives a small increase in the vehicle weight but has a massive effect on the long term durability of the chassis.

This vehicle also needed the following repairs.

- Replacement suspension bushes due being perished and worn through years of good service

- Freewheeled hubs replaced due to being broken and cracked

- Gearbox seals and gasket replaced after a good clean

- Engine filter and oil leak sorted

This vehicle had much work carried out however whilst providing a top service for our customer we were able to complete this job within 4 and a half days. which meant 'Totty' was on her way back to her owner for the weekend.

Here at Safari Engineering we pride ourselves on being up front on costs, whilst ensuring we provide a top-quality service to all our customers.

Most vehicle parts are available within our parts department. However, when a part is not readily available, we will order this as soon as we can (usually for next day delivery).
